Free Work is based around focused exploration through scentwork and free movement.
By providing different items to smell, taste, and feel, the dog utilises its senses to enhance learning.
By providing items at different heights, and distances, the dog can improve proprioception and awareness of the environment.
During Free Work, the dog often explores at a slower pace, and often revisits areas repeatedly.
Free Work is valuable in the observation of a dog's posture, gait, sensitivity to and preference of textures, scents, tastes, and sounds, (depending on the activities provided).
Free Work can be carried out indoors or outside, and is also a great alternative to a 30 minute walk, particularly if the weather conditions are too hot, or the dog has an injury which requires gentle exercise only.
